Chapter One
Icepaw stiffened as Tawnystar drew her final breath. She knew Tawnystar would die soon, but not this soon. Leafpelt, or now Leafstar, was new leader and her mentor. It was a huge honor to have the leader as your mentor. Quietly she slipped in besides Leafstar in her silent vigil for Tawnystar. Icepaw couldn’t believe that just after a day in the twenty-third mountain, or as it was called by the Clans, the Last Ridge. Legends tell of four other fierce clans on the other side. But those were just kit’s tales, so Skyclan and Darkclan joined together to claim the territory, but it seemed like the tales were true. Finchstripe and Browntail had been with Tawnystar when she was attacked, and they said they had been ambushed by a patrol of cats. The leader of the patrol had been a black tabby tom with blazing green eyes. It was nearly moonhigh, and Leafstar would have to appoint a new deputy soon. Icepaw nudged her mentor to remind her of the ceremony that had to take place. Leafstar stretched out of her crouch and jumped to the top of a boulder. “Our new deputy shall be Snowears!” Leafstar yowled into the night sky. A thousand questions surged through Icepaw’s head. But the one that stuck was ‘Why Snowears?’ Sure, she was the best fighter and hunter in the clan, but she was terribly negative. Her previous apprentice, Lionpool, had always been sullen although he had a beautiful mate and two adorable kits. As Icepaw thought of the kits, she scrabbled up to the top of he bolder and muttered something into Leafstar’s ear. “And we are also apprenticing Ashkit and Redkit” Ashkit crawled behind Redkit, proudly gazing at his mother, Spotteddapple. “Redkit, your mentor shall be Pinefeather. You will now be known as Redpaw until you receive your warrior name” Leafstar ceremonially gave Redpaw a lick on the shoulder, standing patiently while Redpaw licked her in return, then jumped off to join his mentor. “Ashpaw,” Leafstar continued, “Your mentor will be Cloudstorm, from this moment on, you will be known as Ashpaw, until you receive your warrior name” Licking Ashpaw as well. Thusly Leafstar jumped down and told everyone to have a rest. As she cuddled up to her nest, she thought ‘At least we’re home and can give her a proper burial’. Icepaw was dreaming. An old, orange-pelted tom with stars in his paws padded up to her. “Hello, youngster, I’m Jayfeather” The way he said it made it sound like her was Yellowfang. “Okay, Jayfeather, why are you in my dream? Are you from SpiritClan?” Icepaw asked suspiciously. “No. I’m from Starclan” Jayfeather said as a smile played across his lips much like his predecessor, Yellowfang. “What’s Starclan?” Icepaw asked hotly. Then everything went to darkness.
A few days later, Icepaw woke up suddenly, shivering with fear. It was the dream again of Jayfeather again. ‘Just a dream’, Icepaw thought, breathing deeply. She rushed out, hoping to ask Moonwhisker about this so called Starclan. “Moonwhisker! Moonwhisker!” Icepaw yowled. “What, you crazy apprentice?” Moonwhisker grumbled groggily. “What’s Starclan?” Icepaw asked, cocking her head to one side. “Ug, The other four clans’ Spiritclan! Now leave me alone!” Moonwhisker growled. ‘The other four clans’ Spiritclan?’ Icepaw thought to herself. ‘Who could they be? What were their motives? Why, of all things, was he in her dream, not the dream of the mouse-bile worthy other four clans’ leaders’ dreams?’ The questions repeated themselves in her mind.

Laws & Consequences

Hello All, this is Mistystar,

I know I haven't been on a ton, but give me a break- I have a busy life. I recently was looking through some links from followers and noticed that there was another site called writtingwarriors. Naturally, this is awfully close to writing warrior.  When I got onto the site I found that my profile information has been completely plagiarized (as in copied and pasted) right into the other site owners profile. How do I know this? Well I seem to remember there only being one owner of Stars & Whiskers Graphics. Hunting further I found that she'd copied my subject matter as well: Warriors Fanfiction.

I have issued a warning to the owner already and I'm writing this as a warning to all other readers out there: I will not tolerate plagiarism of any type. It is against the law in the first place & any plagiarism that is not taken care of after my warning will be reported to Blogspot to be deleted. This is not a "three strikes your out" system. You get one warning & one warning only. I have posted this in the rules and all over the site. All perpetrators will be placed on the wall of shame.

Thank You,
Mistystar

The Rise of the Tiger & the Hawk- by Silverstorm (part 1)

As Silverstorm padded on to the tree trunk where the cats had gathered on an Island, she picked up a swift scent that Windclan and Riverclan were already there, they just had to wait for Shadowclan now. Silverstorm had wondered if her friends Moonclaw, Moonsky, Ravenfrost, Icestorm, Silvermist, Iceclaw and Amberflame were here, they had been best friends since they were apprentices. Even if they were in differnt clans they were best friends. "Hi Silverstorm" came a familiar voice behind her, she whipped around and saw Moonclaw standing two mouse lengths away from her "I thought you weren't here! where‘s Moonsky and Ravenfrost and Icestorm and the rest?” Silverstorm meowed "well we don’t always go to every gathering you know, and Moonsky had a fight with Shadowclan today, she was unable to come cause of her bad wounds she’s staying with Ravenfrost until she heals, and I’m not quite sure where Icestorm and the others are" Moonclaw mewed "Poor Moonsky” said Icestorm as she padded over to join them. “Hi Icestorm!, Shadowclans late, I just feel like I want get the gathering over and done with, I’m so tired I could fall asleep now" she said as she changed the subject. "well its all right cause Shadowclans here now" Icestorm pointed with her tail to where some Shadowclan cats emerged from the tree trunk, Blackstar was already on the tree next to Firestar. Silvermist came over to join. When the cats fell silent the gathering started with the yowl of Onestar.
The gathering soon ended as Silverstorm said goodbye to Moonclaw and Icestorm and Silvermist, then she felt her neck fur rising. There was a strange scent what mingled in the air, nothing to do with any of the clans or even foxes or badgers. "What's wrong Silverstorm?" said a voice behind, she turned her head round and saw Firestar standing next to her, "theres some strange scent in the air" she answered as the scent started fading away, know the look in Firestars eyes when he sniffed the air she knew that he had scented it as well. "you’re right! we'll have to make note of it and send the message to the patrols to look out for what ever is out there" Firestar meowed "But shouldn’t we warn the other clans about it" she protested as she saw Moonclaw and Icestorm and Silvermist vanish behind a bush. "Well there'll just have to make do without the message" he mewed as he padded onto the tree trunk. Silverstorm still looked concerned even though Firestar was right, it was too late for them to warn the clans, Windclan were almost on the hills, while Riverclan and Shadowclan had already gone.
Silverstorm curled up in her mossy nest and soon drifted of into a deep sleep. Everything was dark, tree's were looming over her and Silverpelt didn't shimmer in the sky. Then she rolled over on her side, she felt claws and teeth sinking and griping into her. She closed her eyes and wondered if she was going to die, then it had suddenly stopped. She got on to her paws and shook her self, then yowling of cats rose getting louder and louder and wondered whether she should run, but it was as if her paws were stuck to the ground, as the noise started fading away she could hear a whisper of a voice in her ear, she turned her head round but saw no one there and then the voice spoke to her in a cunning, scary voice “the tiger and the hawk will return, all will be lost as the mountain will crumble and crash to destroy the four, death will take part in those who put their life at risk” Silverstorm’s heart had skipped a beat, was it true? That starclan had given the clans another prophecy for them to discover, a secret so dark and mysterious that they could solve it before time was up? She thought. Then she closed her eyes and all she could see was blackness…………
Silverstorm woke with a start and heard a hiss from Dustpelt who slept next to her “will you keep quite, were trying to get some sleep here!”
“Sorry” Silverstorm mumbled, Dustpelt gave a grunt of disgust but turned back and laid his head down again. “Are you all right?” Squirrleflight asked her from where she was sleeping with Brambleclaw, who was fast asleep, “yeah, just a bad dream” Silverstorm replied and gave a yawn of tiredness. Squirrelflight left her to it and started to go back to sleep again. No light was streaming in and yet it seemed that her dream lasted through the whole night. Silverstorm was tired but still couldn’t seem like she could just fall asleep with that horrible prophecy still buzzing in her head like hornet bee‘s. Then she got up from her nest and crept quietly out of the warriors den. Finally she was out and had a perfect idea for who she could talk to: Moonclaw! She knew Moonclaw would trust and understand her and say it wasn’t some stupid dream, it wasn’t like the others wouldn’t understand her, she just felt that she wanted to go to Riverclan and talk to her friend.
Silverstorm crossed the stream easily and was in Riverclan territory before sunhigh, I should disguise my scent she thought stopping in her tracks. She tasted the air and caught a tangy scent near the lake, she reached the waters edge and stood looking down, the water was dirty with mud, if she swam in it, sure enough it would disguise her Thunderclan scent.
As soon as she neared the Riverclan camp she looked hoping that dawn wasn’t breaking in through the clouds, the sky was growing pale but the sun wasn’t up yet, if she didn’t hurry up now the dawn patrol will be heading out soon. She padded curiously through Riverclan camp pausing when ever a sound in the camp rose. Where was Moonclaw? Where was the warriors den? “Who goes there?!” a voice sounded behind her, trying not to show her fear she turned round to see a sleek silver tabby she-cat standing in front of her, her eyes narrowed. “Hi Moonsky! Its just me, Silverstorm” she mumbled through gritted teeth. Moonsky stared at her for a few heartbeats before returning the reply “Hi Silverstorm! What are you doing here?”
“I need to talk to Moonclaw” Silverstorm mewed with impatience “Right” Moonsky mewed with uncertainty. Didn’t Moonsky trust her?
“how are you? Moonclaw told me you had a fight with Shadowclan”
“Oh, yeah I did, Shadowclan was crossing the border, we caught them and they said they were chasing a squirrel and didn’t realize they crossed the border, we had a argument and that’s how the fight started, and you wouldn’t want to wake Moonclaw, she’s been sleeping rough, Ravenfrost has told us not to disturb her, maybe you can talk to me and I’ll pass on the message” Silverstorm nodded, it was better to come here and talk to one of her friends and not come here to find it had been a wasted journey. The two she-cats padded into the medicine den, trying not to wake Ravenfrost as they slipped past her. Beechfur and Dapplenose were lying on their side, breathing in and out as they dreamed. “Over here!” whispered Moonsky where she slept on a mossy nest surrounded by a few shells.
Silverstorm started explaining her dream to Moonsky. “And that’s why I wanted to go to Riverclan to see Moonclaw” Silverstorm finished, Moonsky looked down at her paws and then looked back up again. “I don’t know what this Prophecy means, perhaps we should talk to Ravenfrost about it” Moonsky said leaning forward. “haven’t you talked to your own medecine cat or leader about it?” Moonsky meowed firmly.
“no”
“why?”
“because I felt like coming here that’s all”
“but you wouldn’t have to travel really far here when I don’t know anything about what your going on and besides it would be a lot easier if you told someone in your own clan-” Moonsky stopped still and Silverstorm wondered why she had just suddenly stopped, Silverstorm pricked her ears, she could hear small whispering sounds coming from the centre of the riverclan camp. “Keep an eye out for them shadow- clan warriors” a voice mewed to his clanmate. “Its Pouncetail, Rainstorm and Graymist” Silverstorm didn’t realize that Moonsky had took a peek to see the cats who were going on the dawn patrol my clanmates will be preparing for a dawn patrol now, what if they figure out that my scent goes right over the thunderclan border. Silverstorm thought suddenly “you’ve got to go, now!” Moonsky disturbed her thoughts. “How? the dawn patrol will clearly see and scent me, they’ll keep me here as prisoner” Silverstorm meowed desperately “we don’t keep cats as prisoner! and don’t worry I know a secret route they don’t know about, only the medecine cats know about it and It’ll be quicker.”
“How do you know about it then, when only the medecine cats know”
“I found it out yesterday, hurry!”
Moonsky lead her to where Ravenfrost kept her medecine cat supplies and she could just see a small tunnel big enough for only an apprentice to squeeze through. “Thank you Moonsky!” Silverstorm mewed through gritted teeth “that’s alright, now go!” Moonsky urged. Silverstorm hurled herself into the tunnel hoping that she could run through the prickly gorse faster as she had leaped into the gorse and reed escape route. The sharp gorse thorns were tugging at her pelt taking out small silver tabby hairs as she scrambled onward. Finally she was out, she turned around to see if Moonsky was still there, but her friend had already gone. Silverstorm raced away, getting rid of the foul smell out of her pelt in the River but as soon as she shook herself dry she heard a snap of a twig close by, she pricked up her ears, No sound anymore! must have been a squirrel. “Rrrrrooowww!!!!” a yowl sounded behind her, she turned around to see a mottled gray-blue tom charging at her. Before she new it Rainstorm had pinned her down, she let out a yowl of pain as he dug his claws into her shoulders, she tried to shake him off and scratch her hind claws across his belly but whatever she tried it wouldn’t get him off. Then just as she thought that he would bite down in her neck she felt that nothing was on pinning down on her anymore. She looked up to see a huge tabby tom with bright, fierce amber eyes, holding down Rainstorm as he marked a scratch on Rainstorms shoulder, a few tail lengths away from her was also another tabby tom with big broad shoulders like the other tom, except this cat had ice-blue eyes which made her shiver as it turned into small slits as he tackled with Graymist and Pouncetail. “I need a little help here!” the blue eyed tabby screeched over his shoulder. Silverstorm launched herself at Pouncetail, pinning him down she scratched her claws across his flank, he twisted over bringing all his weight pushing down on her, she didn’t expect that. She shook him while scratching him on his belly, he yowled with pain and let her go. Lips drawn back in a snarl, ears flat on her head, she made a leap in the air, he dodged the blow but Silverstorm turned to the side he was springing to and had just managed to scrape her claws across his flank and then she flew to the ground, her breath knocked out of her as she landed. Where was Pouncetail? She couldn’t see him anywhere but then she could just make out his ginger and white coat, tail between legs, ears flat on his head, as he raced away in among the reeds followed by Graymist. “I am going to tell Leopardstar about this, that a mouse-brained Thunderclan cat has stepped right into Riverclan territory, into our camp, and about these two tabby idiots!” Rainstorm hissed defiantly as he followed his clanmates back to there camp. Silverstorm sat panting with relief that she had been saved, but who were these cats who came to help her? And just as if her thoughts had been heard the amber eyed tabby looked at her and started to talk: “I am Lightning that strikes through cloud, Lightning. And this is my son, Thorn that prickles your fur, Thorn, we come from the tribe of Rushing Water. And who are you? What clan do you come from?” he demanded. So these were tribe cats who had saved her, but what were they doing here? “my name is Silverstorm, I come from Thunderclan”
“and why were you in another clans territory?”
“because I had a weird dream that’s all, not that its any of your business” Silverstorm looked at Lightning, he seemed to want to know more about the dream Silverstorm had mentioned “and what happened in your drea-” Thorn was cut off by his father “we’ll hear about this on our way to Thunderclan, by now a bigger patrol will be preparing to leave to track us, now lets go!”
Silverstorm told the tribe cats about her dream, they fell silent for a few heartbeats when she had finished, and then Lightning said: “We told the tribe of endless hunting to send a dream to a clan cat, we had heard the stories about the clans helping our tribe” he explained “and now we need to ask your clan to help our tribe again” Thorn added. “What’s going on with your tribe then?” she asked anxiously “we just need to talk to your leader about this” Lightning meowed as he waited for her to lead the way, she scampered off into the bushes followed by Lightning and then Thorn.
She could see the thorn tunnel, the entrance to the Thunderclan camp. What would I tell Firestar? she thought trying to imagine what her leader would tell her for why she had disappeared to Riverclan and found two tribe cats who had saved her life. She didn’t realize that Lightning and Thorn were waiting for her, she raced toward them and took the lead into the Thunderclan camp. As soon as they came in, every cat was gasping as they saw the newcomers walk in holding their heads high, as if they weren’t afraid of anyone who stepped forward to challenge them. Firestar was coming down from the Highledge with Brambleclaw at his heels. “Silverstorm, what happened last night? Birchfall was going to take you on the dawn patrol but you weren’t there, why?” Firestar exclaimed calmly and steadly “and who are these two cats?” Brambleclaw added staring from Lighting to thorn and back again with anxious and curios eyes. “Well…” Silverstorm started until she noticed that her clanmates were padding up to hear the conversation “I would like to talk to you about it in your den Firestar” she pleaded. Firestar gazed at her for a few heartbeats then said: “Very well, Jayfeather go fetch Leafpool and tell her to come to my den, Brambleclaw you can come with me as well, and so can the newcomers” Firstar’s ears were twitching with curiosity while he sent out the orders. “Firestar, would you like me to go at the back to make sure these newcomers don’t do anything wrong” Dustpelt broke in as he glared at the tribe cats “No, its quite alright Dustpelt” Firestar meowed gingerly as he padded off towards his den. Silverstorm followed, then Brambleclaw, then the tribe cats and then Leafpool and Jayfeather. As soon as they left the clearing the thunderclan cats started mumbling and whispering to each other as they went into her leaders den.
She started explaining her dream and about the tribe cats. Leafpool, Jayfeather, Brambleclaw and Firestar was listening carefully. “And we went back here” she finished with relief as she had thought that she would never get through about what had happened ages ago. “what do you think this dream means Leafpool and Jayfeather” Firestar asked turning towards them. “I’m not quite sure, it can mean a lot of things really but I just don’t kn-” Leafpool was interrupted by Jayfeather “It means that the tribe of rushing water needs help, the mountain will come crashing down to destroy the tribe, but I‘m not quite sure about: it will destroy the four” Jayfeather shifted his paws with embarrassment. “Well then, I suppose who ever got the dream from the tribe of endless hunting should go, I think the sun-drown cats should go as well” Firestar mewed. “But Firestar, I think all Thunderclan cats should stay here, after all the battle with Windclan would never be forgotten, and Windclan might attack us again once there properly healed, which would only take a few days” Brambleclaw meowed his eyes flashed with anger. A few moons ago Windclan had attacked them during the night which lead them to a battle between all four clans, until a shadow had covered the sun which plunged them into total darkness. “Your right, you’ll have to ask some other cats to go with you” Firestar said, his ears twitching, “well I’m not going to handle the whole tribe by myself, and I understand that you need to stay here to protect your clan in case something happens again” Silverstorm dipped her head to them. “Very well, I shall call a clan meeting at once” Firestar answered.
Firestar told his clan about what had happened with Silverstorm and everything and was soon on her way back again to seek the mountain of the tribe of rushing water, she couldn’t help thinking that it was all to soon that she was returning to the mountain again. And she knew who she should would take with her: Moonclaw, Moonsky, Ravenfrost, Amberflame, Silvermist, Icestorm and Iceclaw.

The Web

Lucid stared out into the night. She took a deep breath, nothing bad was going to happen tonight. A year and a day ago, Paidom, the village Web Reader, had said, “With the death of the disbeliever, the final battle shall begin.” Today he had revisited that prophecy and had said ominously that the doom for this “disbeliever” was tonight. “But,” Lucid thought out-loud, “Paidom is wrong. Nothing is going to happen.” Her heart pounded as she heard a twig snap to her left, she felt like she was being watched. Goddess I hate this assignment, she thought. She shook her head to clear her thoughts causing her jet-black hair to jump around her shoulders. Suddenly a twig snapped, this time to her right. A great gust of wind hit her and she felt something dark pass right through her soul. Lucid screamed and started to run back to the village. But her flight was in vain, she had only gotten two steps when something hit her in the back. She collapsed, feeling a dark cloud of blood spreading from the knife wound. Her last thoughts before the black abyss swallowed her was: And so it begins

Olympia Snow looked out the window of the carriage. It was a hot summer here in the Realm of the Web. She thought back to before she had found the Web, even though it had only been a few days before with all that had happened since it felt like a lifetime.  Her life had been great, she had white-blond hair and beautiful ice-blue eyes, all the qualities of a girl in the popular crowd. She didn’t believe in fantasies, all that damsel in distress kind of junk, all that mattered was whether or not Hollister Co. was having a sale or whether or not Aaron McPhearson was asking her to the Valentines Dance. Then she had found the Web.

She had been walking, looking for cell phone reception, in a section of the woods behind her Grandmothers’ house that her she had always called the Old Wood. Olympia hadn’t noticed where she was going until she bumped into a tree. She stepped back, swearing under her breath. It was an old one for sure, its trunk was twisted and its gnarled bark was etched with the wear and tear of the years. Suddenly there was a creak and she watched as the twisted tree untwist to reveal a hole. Inside the hole was a spider web, threaded with sparkling beads of dew. Olympia reached out to touch the sparkling web. As soon as her finger brushed the web a tremor ran through it and up into her arm. She closed her eyes and when she opened them she was here.
Tal came over and put his hand on her shoulder. She had never met anyone like him, with his smart, caring personality, he had taken her in and helped her even though her mission could cause his death and the death of his clan. They were a close knit group, First there was Tal, he was the leader of the group, Annika Grey was the second in command to Tal, she was a natural born leader but was inexperienced, Taylin was a newer member to the Clan but she was learning quickly, Audrea, Miceala, and Jessea were all fighters, they were experts at their craft, Syrah and Symphoniea were trackers, hunters, and handy when you needed them most, finally there was Tara, she was the magick of the group. Tara was a master at the Magickal Arts she had Web Magic running through her veins, there was nothing she couldn’t do.
“We’re here,” said Tal softly.
Olympia cringed. What if I’m too late? She thought, what if the Web has already been cut? Scissorhands wouldn’t wait, he would cut the Web any chance he got and he would kill to get that chance.
They had arrived at a small village in the middle of the desert. It was an odd place. The village itself was based in a dense forest, a forest in the middle of the desert. At first Olympia had thought it was a lie, “forests don’t grow in the middle of the desert” she had said with a look of disbelief on her face.  Now she was here and there was no turning back.
A warrior standing guard at the edge of the forest greeted Olympia and the Rivintal Clan.
“Are you the Keeper of the Web we were informed about?” he asked tentatively.
“Keep…” began Olympia, but she was cut off by Tal who said, “Yes, the Keeper as well as the Rivental Clan.”
“Good,” the guard mumbled trying to look anywhere but Olympia’s face, “Right this way.”
“What’s wrong?” asked Olympia.
“I’m just showing respect to you, great Web Keeper,” the guard answered.
Olympia shot a questioning look at Tal, but he kept silent.
Eventually they arrived at the village and were sent off to meet with the village leader. It was a large place for a village. The houses were elaborate, with intricate metalwork and multicolored stone decorating their sides and roofs.
The group walked along a small side path, winding their way through a small wooded glade. They heard them before they saw them. Wind chimes. Swaying from every branch, ledge, or hook imaginable were all sorts of chimes, all of which seemed to belong to a small shabby hut. It was it was painted a sad eggshell blue, rather then the cream adobe and all around its perimeter ran a high fence, covered in vines and flowers. There was a sudden noise making Olympia’s head turn, and there, trotting along the fence was a solid black cat with a bell strung on twine around its neck. Slowly she turned her head and on the previously bare porch sat a grizzled old man who was whittling wood. Now, if that wasn’t was weird enough, the old man wasn’t looking down at the wood he was carving, he was staring straight at Olympia, with the lightest blue eyes she had ever seen. He must be blind with eyes like those, Olympia thought. The trance was interrupted by Tal who, casting a dark look at the old man, pulled her away down the path. Despite the fact that they had passed by the house, a strange musical echo followed them and the hair at the back of Olympia’s neck pricked, as if they were being watched or followed.
As they emerged from the glade, Olympia began to feel more nervous then ever and kept glancing behind her. She was sure that something was following them. Finally the ten of them came upon the most elaborate home yet, which caused her to stop and stare. It was cream adobe, decorated with multi-colored stones like the others, but its roof looked like something from China. It was made in the same triangle fashion with metal rods curling from the ends. The doors were giant and dark wood with a metal handle and decorations. The doors swung open and a wizened servant appeared.
“Welcome to the home of the village leader.” He droned.
“Please go and tell him that the Keeper of the Web and the Rivintal Clan are here to see him.” Tal commanded.
Slowly the servant shuffled off to inform the leader and the group was left in the foyer to wait.
“Ahhh, welcome my friends!” cried the village leader, coming into the room.
“Musai, always a pleasure,” replied Tal, graciously.
Olympia toned out of the conversation. Not just because she was already bored, but also because the old man from earlier had quietly been let in. He didn’t seem to be moving either. He just stood there, blocking the door, staring with those unsettling eyes.
“I’m assuming that this is the Keeper,” mused the leader, Musai.
Before Tal could speak Olympia, her attention snapping back to the leader, answered, “Yes, that is my title.”
“That is true madame, but do you know what your title really means?” questioned Musai.
Olympia missed the question completely, she had resumed staring at the odd-eyed man.
Musai noticed her fascination and said, clearing his throat, “Please excuse our village Reader. Paidom hasn’t been himself as of late.”
“What exactly does he do?” Olympia questioned, with a curious tone.
“Paidom is a Web Reader. He is descended from a long line f ‘Readers’. A Web Reader has a special connection with the Web, they have the ability to ‘read’ it like a book and make predictions about the future,” Musai explained.
There was a low whistle from Audrea, an impressed look crossing her face.
“Now, as I said before, so you know what your title means?” Musai repeated.
“No, all I know is that I touched the Web and I ended up here.” Said Olympia, a slightly whining tone entering her voice.
“Then I’ll explain,” Musai replied. ”Long ago, before the Earth was populated with powerless humans a people called the Timeless Ones lived. They were skilled in the magickal arts and never aged. One day a powerful wizard rose to power and did great things for the Timeless Ones, but he was not unrivaled. Another powerful, but evil, magick came along and tried to kill the good wizard. The gods became angered and they punished the evil wizard, rendering him powerless. It was he that started the race of powerless humans. The Timeless Ones weren’t alone on the Earth though there were powerful creatures too. These creatures were no danger to the magickal Timeless Ones but the humans were being slaughtered. Finally the gods came up with a solution, they created creatures that were just as powerless as the humans that could co-exist with everything else. The world thrived and humans became more advanced. Over time the Timeless Ones became displeased, the powerless humans were now matched with them and they wanted war. It was to be a war that would determine who would live on the Earth for the rest of time, the result would be one group leaving for good. Many of the gods lost hope and left the Earth thinking all was lost, they all left except for one, the Goddess. The good wizard, who, being immortal, was still alive, watched as the world fell to pieces around him, so he partnered with the Goddess and called an end to the war. He created a separate dimension where the Timeless Ones, and all their creatures, could live in peace. Over time we lost our immortality, but our world still exists. The human’s advanced technology was lost in the war and had to start all over again. Before the good wizard died he created a magical web that he called the Web of Worlds. It allowed a person, the Keeper of the Web, to travel back and forth from different worlds, including back and forth in time. That is how it is 2010 on Earth and 1307 here. The position of Keeper of the Web was passed down from generation to generation, but eventually it was forgotten and no new Keeper rose to the job, until now.”
Olympia gasped, “So I’m the new Keeper!”
“Yes, and you have a duty now,” whispered the leader. “The threat of the evil wizard never went away. His threat and his evil have been passed down throughout his family line. The current heir to the evil is a shadow weaver, a Mage that has chosen black magick, named, as you know, Scissorhands. He came a few nights ago and killed our best guard.”
Tal tensed with grief. The guard that had been killed was a former member of the Rivintal Clan. She had been one of the first to join and, supposedly, was Tal’s first and last love.
“That’s when Paidom went bad,” Musai continued, “I imagine Scissorhands is with the Web already.”
“If that’s the case we’d better get down there!” said Tal, determinedly.
The clan raced out of the house and, following Musai’s careful instructions found the entrance to the Cave of the Web. It was damp and dark inside. Olympia shivered and a feeling of deep dread cam over her. After at least ten minutes of walking in the dark the group arrived in a brightly lit chamber. It was beautiful, the walls were covered in a detailed history of time and in the middle of the chamber there was a circular dais with steps all around. These steps lead up to a gorgeous metal pedestal where the Web was spun. Seated on the bottom step was Scissorhands.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” He said, his voice sounded like the whoosh of the wind and the popping of embers in a fire.
“I know, and I’m ready,” Olympia replied. “The Web is my responsibility and I will defend it with my life.”
“But it doesn’t have to be like this,” Scissorhands whispered.
“What do you mean?” Olympia asked suspiciously.
“You could walk away now, and spare your own life, as well as the lives of your friends,” Scissorhands replied.
Olympia looked at her companions. She studied each of their faces, seeing the time she had spent with them flash before her eyes. What if I do walk away? She asked herself. What if one of their lives will be spared if I do?
Suddenly, Annika looked straight at her and said, “What are you waiting for? This is your destiny. We traveled all this way with you, just dropping our lives in Surtaable, dreams, and hopes, chances that we have now lost because of the choice we made. Lucid came here to fight him, to protect you, the Keeper, she knew was coming. Do you want that sacrifice to be in vain?”
Olympia knew her answer now, “I…we will fight for our lives and the Web. No matter what happens you will be defeated.”
“So be it,” spat Scissorhands. And the fight began.
Scissorhands was not only a good fighter but a powerful Mage too. He could have knives flying at one person and be fighting hand-to-hand combat with another. But Olympia wasn’t helpless, she had learned a good amount of Web Magick on the journey and used that now to defend herself. Even though it would have been ten against one, he had conjured praeter-human (entities created from magick) minions to help.
Towards the middle of the fight Olympia noticed two of her companions fighting beside her. Annika was whirling ad twirling, fighting with her custom made rapier and at her back was Tal. He looked like a lion with his dirty blond hair and gold tunic, fighting a ninja-like praeter-human. The fight was like a dance, different partners leaping and jumping about, though always staying together, making blows that were only to be matched by their foes. In its own way, it was beautiful the thought left room for Olympia to think about what was going to happen if they won. Could she stay here, and live her life with Tal by her side?
She lurched out of her thoughts when Taylin screamed. She had been fighting a small imp-like praeter-human, but now a gigantic horned entity towered over her. Audrea leaped towards her only to run into Misceala. Jessay was next closest but still, by the time she got there it would be too late. It was Syrah that was practically next to the girl. Why didn’t she move?
Everyone knew that syrah didn’t really like Taylin. Thinking she was an inexperienced weight that the group shouldn’t have to pull. But would she let her die? Olympia held her breath. The being sword plunged. But right before it hit, Syrah was there, taking the blow instead of Taylin. She crumpled and Symphoniea screamed. She quickly killed her entity and dropped her sword. Quickly she rushed over to her fallen friend, but no one had time to falter, the battle continued.
Olympia released a burst of energy, knocking down Scissorhands. She had finally gotten the upper hand and she pushed Scissorhands toward the Web. Two of her friends now lay injured and the others were helping them. Olympia wasn’t sure exactly who besides Syrah, she didn’t have time to look. Suddenly Olympia had him right up against the Web. She dodged a blow and knocked him with her hand. He fell back and just barely touched the Web. Everything froze, everything except for Olympia.
A giant tremor passed through the Web and Scissorhands. And just like that he was gone. Motion was back and the fight was over. The only problem was, was that Olympia knew now what she had to do. She walked up to Tal and embraced him. Then he returned the hug and kissed her, slowly, sweetly, truly, full of his love. Despite Olympia’s urge to stay there, in his arms, happy forever she stepped away from him and let her finger connect with the Web, keeping where she wanted to go clearly in her mind. This time there was no tremor she just slowly slipped through it cleanly, as if through water. Just before she disappeared she looked back and raised a hand, waving a solemn good-bye. Then she closed her eyes, and was gone.
When she woke she was once again standing beside the old twisted tree. She knew no time had passed here, even though it had in the Realm. Olympia started to trudge back to the house, but before she left the clearing she took one look back, she had a feeling, deep in her heart that she would return here and travel the Web again. Scissorhands was not defeated, only gone for now. She would go back to the Realm. And when that day comes, she vowed, I will be ready.

The Other Clans in Existence by Surya

Icepaw stiffened as Tawnystar drew her final breath. She knew Tanwystar would die soon, but not this soon.
